It was great to hear such a long interview with a lot of music from Marlene VerPlanck, she is one of my favourites. It was interesting to hear a track from her very first session, nearly fifty years ago, next to her latest material, it's wonderful how well she has maintained her voice.
Tempo is a funny thing: when I heard her version of You'd Be So Easy To Love, I thought "That's too fast." Too fast for the song and too fast for Marlene, but the first thing Russell said was "Nice tempo." Maybe I'm wrong.
I was interested to hear her say that she doesn't do medleys because a good song should be allowed to stand on its own. I think that's exactly right, I don't understand the appeal of medleys.
