Just ran across a Les Brown album on Rhapsody called Live 12 May 1957, but can't find it for sale anywhere. Anyone know anything about this one?

Geoff Walter

I'm a great fan of Les Brown and in particular his recordings with Doris Day, I have several of their CD's. I've also just bought a CD of Les Brown which include a couple of tracks with Jo Ann Greer. Are there any comprehensive CD's of them together? Geoff.

Dirk

I have been waiting for a cd compilation of Jo Ann's Work with Les Brown and if possible her ghost singing for Rita Hayworth films in the fifties and a really good vocal of "Ace in the hole" from Naked Alibi. I know she also did a vocal for the soundtrack of Imitation of Life (1959).

I am very interested in getting a company to collect her recordings with Les Brown and elsewhere together.

What can I do to help accomplish this?

I recently picked up the same cd, had heard og Jo Ann from Brown's Capitol lps but decided to google, great site. Jo Ann was a great singer. I'm sort of a collector of jazz inspired female singers. thanks for all your comments

Did Anita Ellis or Jo Ann Greer sing for Rita Hayworth in Pal Joey?

I started the official Les Brown Society in 1973,and it became
quite successful. I then went to live in L A in 1978, and until
his death we became firm friends. Jo Anne also became a regular visitor to my home in Tarzana Cal,
The highlight was Les and the band came to our home to celebrate
our marriage ( met my wife through the band) reception, the band had just played at the opening of a big store in, i think
Topanga Plaza, but it was a night to remember.
Over the years we became "buddies " of some of the great names
in the big band industry.
I did quite a lot of interviews with most of the Brown sidemen.
and these were recorded, and still in my collection.
I could go on for page after page, but now i am residing back in
England following the death of my wife Crystal (she was a Bostonian), any help i can give please contact me, my email #

I just discovered Jo Ann Greer by listening to 90.9 FM (WKTZ) here in Jacksonville. I thought it was Doris Day singing and was amazed to find that it was a Jo Ann Greer. The song was "Sentimental Journey". After some research, I found a CD "The Great Les Brown" with vocals (3) by Jo Ann Greer. she also sings "September Song" (1 verse) and "Love Me OR Leave Me" which Doris Day recorded as well, which, I believe, is from a movie with James Cagney, who plays a gangster. What confuses me is how alike Jo Ann and Doris sound. It is almost eerie! I feel that of the 2 Jo Ann Greer has much more depth. I wish there was a nice compilation of all her recordings. She deserves to be recognized. I also tried to find a picture of Ms. Greer - to no avail. And as an FYI- the liner notes on the CD, written by Dr. Herb Wong, never mentioned Jo Ann Greer, even though she sang 3 pieces on the CD. He did mention Doris Day as being a singer with the Les Brown band. Not fair!!!
