Not a good show for me, a whole hour of Harry Connick jr. I thought the arrangements on the tracks from his new CD were dull and plodding and I find his voice coarse and unpleasant. The Buddy Rich vocal track was interesting, I think he had a very nice singing voice. The Gilbert O'Sullivan/Peggy Lee duet may be of historical interest but I thought it was musically worthless. The only material I have heard from Ian Shaw has been on the Russell Davies show and it hasn't encouraged me to seek out any more. To me, he sounds frankly unhinged. Gilbert O'Sullivan, June Whitfield, Dicky Valentine, this show had more footling and useless music than just about any I've heard (and I try to listen every week). The John Pizzarelli material was a welcome interlude of quality. I didn't think much of the Diana Krall track. Thank heaven for a Billie Holiday track to finish off with. |
